While many teams are busy touting the addition of new baseball players, the Yellow Springs Nine held a press conference to introduce their fans to three new draft picks they would be getting in next January’s draft.
“These players are going to be fantastic,” GM Ron Collins said as he unveiled mannikins wearing Nine uniforms and posed in baseball movements. The team also showed exciting videos of statisticians pushing buttons to determine the identities of high school kids who would soon join “the winningest team of the recent BBA past.”
"Look how bright ans shiny these draft picks are," Collins exclaimed! "Just close your eyes and imagine them racing around the base paths and blowing heaters past feeble opposing hitters! ARen't they great!"
Afterward, the club served spiked punch and cookies while Collins and new assistant GM Phillip Watson mingled and continued the soft-sell of how these three picks (acquired when other teams signed players who once toiled at Utopia Field) would make up WAR created by Lawrence Columbus LaLoosh, Angel De Castillo, and Jose Souza.
All three picks are scheduled to be first-round sandwich picks, which will come sometime after the Nine’s 30th pick in the draft.
“Who knows,” Collins said after having powered down several glasses of punch, “there could be more where those come from!”
He was referring to the fact that first baseman Lucas McNeill and center fielder Carlos Garcia remain unsigned at present, and noted that the team is eligible for compensation if both leave—McNeill good for a first round sandwich pick, and Garcia a second.
Most fans left the party unconvinced, but happy enough for the free punch and cookies.

I'm curious to see who is going to replace their production. Free agency is starting to wrap up and there doesn't seem to be much impact on the trade market. If McNeill leaves too and only patchwork replacements are found. Could Yellow Springs miss the playoffs all together?

We'll be sitting in the BBA bus station waving our tin cup around and asking for scraps.
