9-News: 37.004 – LaLoosh Talking to Big Cash Teams

On the face of it, one would think the Yellow Springs front office would be at the front of the line while speaking with Nine star pitcher Lawrence Columbus LaLoosh, but today word has leaked that representatives for LaLoosh were seen having lunch with members of the Long Beach Surfer organization. Yesterday, those same reps were cubbied up with people known to be on the San Antonio payroll.

It was impossible for the waiter to say what details the conversation went into, but he did report that Pad Thai was the popular dish in the mix, and that the table forwent alcoholic beverages and leaned hard on the iced team. “One of them had an Arnold Palmer,” the waiter said. “They were looking pretty intense.”

League observes suggest that Long Beach could be flexing their financial guns after Carlos Gonzalez spurned them for a truckload of spuds in Boise, and note that San Antonio’s organization recently received authorization to increase spending this year after floating a city bond that guaranteed a level of funding indexed to attendance (or some sort of thing that would probably make sense if you could figure out what a Participation Point was…yes, some folks seem to throw those things around like they’re mana from Heaven or something…go figure).

One assumes these are just the first volleys from a series of sharks who are expected to circle around LaLoosh—clearly the strongest pitcher of this season’s free agent class.

NINE FRONT OFFICE STILL PITCHING?

Alongside news of foreign agents invading Yellow Springs players, YS9 fans can place internal leaks that says the Nine are also throwing a lot of LaLoot toward LaLoosh. Much has been made of the Three-Time Nebraska winner’s publicly stated demand of something north of $30M for six seasons, as well as teammate Lucas McNeill’s request for even more. A recent report noted that with so many of the Nine’s players leaving the roost, the club’s payroll has been opened to a significant level.

Given the activity going on around LaLoosh, one suspects that the next two or three weeks may go a long way to defining what’s going to happen with him.

At that point, perhaps the rest of the dominoes will fall.

I wouldn't be surprised if he signs with someone here very soon and it'll be for about what he's asking. I don't know this for sure, and I'm not the one offering, but I bet he snags a pretty penny and comes off the board this sim or next. Just my hunch.

It's certainly possible someone will overpay like that. It's happened before, and LaLoosh isn't so old that the risk couldn't be dealt with to a degree.

That said...five or six seasons out the impact of that $30M is tough to predict.
