Pitcher to add "Veteran Presence"

After a successful 2-week rehab assignment at Indianapolis, news comes that the Yellow Springs front office has activated veteran pitcher Tully Crow. First-year reliever Adergazoz Ouakili will be sent back to Indianapolis to make room for Crow. Also, catcher Dave Thompson has been waived in order to make room on the 40-man roster. Crow appeared in 6 games for the AAA Downforce, registering a pair of victories, and a 1.93 ERA.

Reports are that the 36-year-old Crow still had his velocity, and was able to throw his full repertoire well. The team expects to use him out of the bullpen for the near-term, though some suggest the idea of having a left-handed pitcher who can serve in spot starts on the roster could give manager Bret Richards the flexibility he’s wanted in the past few weeks. "It will be great to get Tully up here," Richards said in a brief comment as he walked into the clubhouse. "He's a guy who's been in fire. We can really use his leadership."

Beyond that, Crow is expected to stabilize a bullpen that has been somewhat suspect all year.

“I’m really excited to hear the news,” Crow said as he prepared to make the two-hour drive from Indianapolis to Yellow Springs. “I’m looking forward to the game today.” He will join the club as it prepares to take on the division leading Omaha Hawks.

Adergazoz had streaks of brilliance in his debut stint with the club, as befits a kid with the flashy stuff he throws. At 21 years of age, one suspects that we haven’t seen the last of him, and indeed the inside scuttlebutt is that the team’s baseball folks would like to see him find the plate just a little more—but that either way, Adergazoz will likely be back in September, if not earlier.

Thompson is a journeyman catcher who has seen limited action in a couple injury stints with the club. He’s considered a defensive catcher, and with a few other options available, became expendable enough to expose to the waiver wire.
