9-Lives: 31-141 – Nine Announces Pepe Poster Night

It may seem unusual for a team to hold a special night for a player from an opposing team, but the Yellow Springs Nine have announced a Pepe Castillo promotional giveaway at this Tuesday’s home game. Castillo pitches for the Long Beach Surfers, but has rapidly become a Nine fan favorite for his feats of daring do against the Nine’s chief rival, Louisville.
“I admit it's a little unusual,” said assistant GM Howard Dunlap. “We hadn’t even considered the idea until we were approached by the Fan Association, but they said everyone passed a hat down at the bar after Castillo’s last outing against the Sluggers, and raised $15K all by themselves. If they want to blow that kind of cash on Pepe Castillo posters, we figured we would be glad to give ‘em away.”
In addition to handing out the posters, the club has also agreed to play highlights of Pepe’s outing on the Diamond vision in between innings. It’s rumored that the town’s mayor will lead the fans in a rendition of “Take Me Out to the Pepe Game” during the 7th inning stretch.
“We’re really looking forward to it,” said Dominic Freely, the Fan Association’s Sargent-At-Arms. “We intend to bring smoke bombs and bang on drums, too. It should be great.”
Castillo wasn’t made available for comment before press-time, but we’re pretty sure he would be as flabbergasted as we were to hear the news.
