Mexico City had a chance to secure a Wildcard spot in the last 16 games of the season. They took 3 of 4 from Boise, split four games with Rocky Mountain, and swept division leader Calgary in a four-game series to end the season, handing Las Vegas the Frontier Division on a silver platter.
But the Aztec's playoff hopes were decided in the desert during a four-game series at Phoenix. The Aztecs took game one, but the wheels fell off and they lost the next three games costing them the series, the wildcard, and the season.
Mexico City ended the season 1 game behind Calgary for the final Wildcard spot. The Aztecs held the tiebreaker over Calgary, winning the season series 10 games to 4. They only needed to win one more game against the last place Talons to make the playoffs.
"Look when the playoffs are on the line, you have to step up and we just didn't get it done." said Mexico City GM Brandon Tucker
The Aztecs will now turn their focus on the development lab and the roster for 2063
