The Mexico City Aztecs have made the following personnel and roster changes:
We have relieved 1B Coach Jose Beuno of his duties and in his place hired Matt Reeves, previously with the Long Beach Surfers Organization.
We have also hired Sergio Cortez as our new bench coach after the mutual departure of Francisco Llorenti, who will pursue a Manager role with another organization. Stelio Kontos has resigned as 3B coach and we have hired Roberto Vasquez as his replacement.
We feel these coaching changes will balance out our staff well and look forward to their contributions going forward.
Sadly, we have voided the last year of Fernando Moreno's contract.
Fernando has been a staple at first base for this organization for over 20 years and we will always consider him an Aztec. We were hoping he could retire an Aztec, but unfortunately this is a business, and tough decisions had to be made.
Fernando had 3800 hits, hit 320 home runs, stole 393 bases, and drove in 1,433 runs during his career here in Mexico City.
His average career WAR is 71.8
We want to thank Fernando for the 20 years he gave to this organization and we wish him all the best in the GBC.
In a corresponding move, we have renewed the contract of Felix Roman and Asil Colasan for another season.
We want to make sure that Felix Roman is able to retire as an Aztec. Hopefully, at the end of this season
