2058.5: The Rundown, Los Cabos (AAA)

Post by Rubaboo » Sat Apr 13, 2024 9:56 pm

2058 Record: 83-62, 2nd Place, Round field League West Cost Division
Playoffs: Made Granville-Roundfield Decision, Lost series 2-0 to stupid Black Hills

Offensive Recap:
Hey, look at this! We found some offense! Los Cabos finished 1st in batting average, hits, and strikeouts and 2nd in OBP, slugging %, OPS, and runs. The team was near the bottom with only 88 home runs but didn't need them during a wildly successful season. One could be forgiven for assuming this is because the team is loaded with AAAA veteran depth but only hitters on the roster are 26 or older, a very positive thing for Mexico City's depth going forward.

Pitching Recap:
Another level in our minors with a decent pitching performance in 2058. The team finished 4th or better in 7 pitching categories, and several pitchers put on very good performances. Quite a few of these guys have been on the big league roster at one point or another and have ended up in the doghouse due to subpar performances in the bigs but Aztec leadership will be hoping that a strong 2058 will have these guys ready to earn roster spots next spring.

Side note: Shout out to Harley Phillips for winning the RL Reliever of the Year.

Hitter of the Season:
3B Todd Cole
Cole proved he can play in AAA, hitting .281/.359/.444 with 13 Home Runs and posting 4.1 WAR to pace all Corsairs players. Cole played primarily at 2B and some at 3B before deputizing at SS at the end of the season and posted positive ZRs at all three positions, his versatility a godsend for a Corsairs team lacking depth in the middle infield.

Pitcher of the Season:
SP Bryan Cunningham
Cunningham took a quantum leap in 2058, exploding onto scouting radar by bumping his potentials substantially. His performance this season has backed up what the scouts have been saying, posting a 2.75 ERA in 24 starts in Los Cabos. Cunningham's stamina is still a point of debate amongst talent evaluators but his numbers were excellent and Mexico City brass is cautiously optimistic about his ability to hold down a spot, either in the rotation or the 'pen, in 2059.

GM's Take:
Nice to have a minor league team doing some things. Many of these guys have been projects or guys I had a gut feeling on that have panned out just enough to be on the cusp of the majors. Quality depth is hard to come by, hopefully I have some of it here. Some of these guys are clearly AAAA type dudes but everyone has a gaggle of those. Good performances out of Cunningham and a guy like Kedar getting some ratings back are encouraging. Helps balance out the bad taste from some of the dog house guys who have been banished to Cabo. Should be an exciting spring next season, there are gonna be some spots up for grabs and hopefully some of these guys are hungry to grab them.
