2056.5: Corsairs win RHML Title

"It's really a credit to those guys, being able to do that with what they had. We really didn't help them by leaving any roster players down there, we needed everybody on deck at the big league level, and they were still able to keep chugging along and get it done. Really a credit to Callum and his staff and the character of the guys in that room. Very proud of them all."

That was GM Fred Holmes commenting in reference to Mexico City's AAA affiliate in Los Cabos taking the 2056 Rupert Horn Memorial League title, the franchise's 7th championship.

Led mostly by a top 3 offense and some timely pitching, the Corsairs won the West Coast division with a record of 75-69, finishing a game ahead of the Death Valley Scorpions. They took out Dodge City in the Brewster Invitational Round 2-1, swept past Salt Lake in the G-R Decision 2-0 and won 2 straight with their backs against the wall to defeat Orlando in the deciding game 5, winning the series 3-2.

This was despite losing their second best hitter by WAR and their second and third best SPs by WAR at the end of their regular season due to Mexico City requiring reinforcements in September for their own stretch run.

"I really think Ivan and Bob kind of kept the guys together as guys were getting promoted and we had new guys coming in to replace them. We don't often have that veteran presence here, the front office really prefers prospects, but having those two in particular really helped the younger guys weather the storm at the end of the year," said manager Callum Hopkins, "Look at Game 4 vs Orlando at the end there. Down going into the 7th, Bob leads off with a double and sets the tone for the whole inning. We score 3 and win the game. Injected a ton of belief into our guys, especially after tough losses in Games 2 and 3. You can't put a price on that kind of vet presence."

The championship is the franchise's 7th and their first since the 2041 season, and is the 6th in the tenure of current Mexico City GM Fred Holmes.
