2054.3: Milestones - Roman hits 60

On September 27th, Aztec slugger Felix Roman hit his 60th and final homerun of the season against the Phoenix Talons.

60 Homeruns was both enough to lead the BBA in 2054, and set a new season high water mark for the Aztecs franchise. Not known as a power hitter destination, the Barnstormers/Aztecs have had only 3 players in their history even reach 50 (one of which was Roman himself in 2052), and Roman's 60 will put him 5 ahead of all-tiime Aztec home run leader Jose Estrada's previous high of 55. While Roman, barring something completely unprecedented, will not challenge Estrada's all-time franchise mark of 424, he does have 204 in 4 seasons and should enter the franchise's top 10 in 2055.

Aside from his home run production, the 34 year old Roman also led the league in RBI with 157, and finished top 5 with 7.7 WAR, all while playing above average defense in CF.

"We in the organization are incredibly thankful that Felix chose to extend his deal and stay with us in '52. You don't have to be an expert to understand that he's a different kind of player. I hope that the fans can truly appreciate what a special time this is for our franchise." Aztec GM Fred Holmes had to say when asked about Roman, "We know he'll be here for at least 3 more seasons and we're looking forward to every moment of it."

The Aztecs certainly wouldn't have won their title in 2052 without Roman, and it would appear as though the team will continue to push for another while Roman still wears Aztec colors. If he can keep up his high level of play, there's no reason to think they won't continue to be in the mix.

He doesn't seem to feel the effects of age at all. The only question is does he top Morales next year or does it take two.
