2053.1: Aztecs Win All the Things (Almost)

Post by Rubaboo » Mon Nov 14, 2022 8:35 am

Despite setting a franchise record for wins with 107 and taking home the franchise's first Championship, the Aztecs weren't finished winning in 2052. Awards season dawned with Mexico City having a number of strong candidates, as one might expect from a team that reached the stratosphere of success that the Aztecs hit. The Nebraska Award, Silk Award, Manager of the Year and GM of the Year awards for 2052 will all be displayed at Aztec HQ, as Mexico City's success pushed past the playoffs and into the offseason. Here are the winners, and voting results.

Dave Corfield

Perhaps a surprisingly large margin of victory for Corfield here as there were several other qualified candidates in Kelly, Flores, and Small but voters seemed to value Corfield's BBA leading ERA and Wins total (tied with Small and Franklin Badger) along with his presence in the top 5 in most categories over the fact that he was 3rd in WAR with 5.8 behind Kelly (6.1) and Flores (6.0). The win is already the 3rd for the 27 year old Corfield, who is putting a perhaps Hall of Fame foundation down through the first 7 years of his career.

Felix Roman

Roman ran away with the JL WAR lead, finishing in the top 3 in most power-relevant JL categories and playing great defense in CF. As great as we was in the regular season, Roman played out of his mind in the playoffs, essentially beating the Hustlers single handedly in the Cartwright and winning MVP both in the Double Day and the Cartwright before tallying 3 RBIs in a 5-1 title clinching win in Game 4 of the Championship Series.

Sunshine Rodriguez
Ahh, my boy Sunshine. He was my OG Roman/Haney deal - the big time trade for the elite OF to set my team up for a run, way back in 2024. He's a great coach and definitely fit the mold of what I've been trying to accomplish with my managers of late; bringing in a manager from a succesful organization and pretending that OOTP cares about that stuff. The game just picks the manager of the year, but it's applicable to this TN so I'm counting it.

General Manager of the Year

Not gonna talk a lot about what I did here, as it's been all of the things that we all try to do every season. Signing the right guys in FA, developing prospects, making the right acquisitions. I'm pleased that you guys all thought I did a good enough job to vote for me. Thank you.

Mexico City also added Gold Gloves for Carlos Olivas and Fernando Moreno and Silver Sluggers for Roman and Roelof Klooster to what is an impressive 2052 hardware haul.

The only awards the Aztecs missed out on was the Eagan award, where Manuel Cruz finished a distant 6th after missing a good chunk of the season and the Gillstrom where Arthur Dunn and Richard Lawrence recieved a few votes at the end of a couple of ballots.
