2052.3: Aztecs Claim Frontier Title, JL's #1 Seed

An Aztec win over San Antonio combined with a Las Vegas loss to Phoenix on September 23rd means that Mexico City is the JL Frontier winner for 2052, as well as the JL's #1 playoff seed. The team watched the Vegas/Phoenix clash in the clubhouse after recording their own win, and as the game went on the mood got more celebratory but not overly so; the focus of this group is evident.

"We're all happy, obviously," said Aztec GM Fred Holmes, "the guys took some time to enjoy it, which they should, but I think we've all got bigger goals in mind. We're excited to be division champs but this team is laser focused on the next steps. Realistically, the division was our first goal this season. I think its pretty safe to say that making the playoffs this season was a minimum expectation. Winning the division was our first real goal, locking up the #1 seed was second. We have that done now as well. We'd love to be the top team in the league and we're right there as well but when you've got a team that's built like ours is and have the goals that we do the regular season is just the first step. So, are we happy to have accomplished what we've accomplished so far? Absolutely, but I don't think we're gonna be cleaning any champagne out of the clubhouse over this, we're all ready for what's next."

What's next is a final series with Vegas to decide the season series and, perhaps, set the tone going into the playoffs. The Aztecs have called up several players from AAA seem to have every intention of giving their regulars some rest as the season winds down but the Vegas series is still important to everyone in the building.

"Everyone wants to beat those guys," said longtime Aztec RF Fernando Moreno, "you hear all the time about how great Vegas always is, they're always winning. I think we all want to get to that level. We want to be the best and in order to get that belt you've got to go and take it."

2052 is the 10th division title in Barnstormer/Aztec history.

Mexico City's division title in 2052 marks their second season in a row atop the JL Frontier. It is the franchise's first back to back titles since 2035-36 and just the third time overall that the Barnstormers/Aztecs franchise has won at least two titles in a row.

Mexico City currently sits at 103-55. They've clinched their third ever 100+ win season and have 4 games to reach their franchise record of 104, set last season.
