2052.1: Back for More

It took all offseason, but the Aztecs and underrated star OF Fernando Moreno have finally agreed to terms on a new contract. The new pact, signed April 5th, guarantees Moreno will stay with the Aztecs for 2052 at $11M, with a team option for 2053 at the same rate.

"We had no intention of letting Fernando go elsewhere this offseason," Aztec GM Fred Holmes said after the contract was announced, "It is our intention to keep him in Aztec colors for the entirety of his career."

Moreno could be advertised as one of the BBA's most underrated stars, and this offseason could be presented as evidence to that point. By all accounts, Moreno's phone was hardly ringing off the hook as teams worked to try to sign more well-known players throughout the offseason. This worked out just fine for everyone. Moreno got a reasonable extension and the Aztecs had the luxury of time to gameplan around Moreno and other players they brought in. Not many of them can boast Moreno's consistent production over the last decade, however. Moreno has averaged just under 4 WAR over the last 12 seasons while playing solid D in right field. He is climbing the Aztec team leaderboards in a large number of categories and could overtake franchise legend Juan Pablo in several of them if he plays his entire career in Mexico City. Moreno, for his part, seems like he's ready to roll despite waiting until after opening day to sign.

"I'm excited to get back after it. The last couple seasons have made me hungry to take the next step. We've got unfinished business to take care of. This franchise has never won a title. I'm hoping to change that before I'm done here."
