2046.6 - Looking Ahead - Pitching

The Aztec pitching staff has been a bit of a mess for a few seasons, as the team has sifted through a large stockpile of samey AAAA guys to see who can get the job done. Basically throwing a handful of spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks. The 2046-47 offseason, however, could start to see a staff begin to settle in a bit as the team will be looking to compete a bit more. Let's run through the 2046 guys and see who could be looking for work elsewhere in 2047:

Rotation

2046 Starters:
LHP Jerry Pacy (34 GS)
RHP Ricardo Moreno (32 GS)
RHP Bob Glenn (16 GS)
LHP Dave Corfield (15 GS)
LHP Jeff Weber (14 GS)
RHP Ed Lynch (14 GS)

Mottled injuries and whatnot caused alot of churning in the rotation this year. Pacy and Moreno were effective and stayed healthy all season and Corfield looked like a #1 in his half season turn in the rotation and Weber surprised in his half as well. The combo of Glenn, Lynch, et al struggled to stay healthy and effective when they were in.

A trio of youngsters are going to get a shot at filling the open spot in the rotation. All three have performed well in the minors thus far and seem ready. Whoever doesn't make the rotation will get a shot at a swingman or other bullpen position.

These 7 made up the bulk of the Aztec pen with mixed results. Rodriguez came out of nowhere to lay claim to the closer role this season. Hopefully he can continue his strong play going forward. Miller, Hale, Yi, and possibly Vazquez pitched well enough to pencil in their spots for 2047, but the rest is a large question mark.

Zorba will be in the bigs next season. Some assortment of Walsh, Lefebvre, and Perez will likely push one of the SP candidates for a spot as well. There's always the possibility of a free agent or rule 5 pickup shaking up the order as well. One thing is certain though, if the team hopes to contend in 2047, they'll need to get a better performance out of this unit.
