2043.4: Aztecs Make Coaching Changes

Post by Rubaboo » Tue Aug 18, 2020 8:33 pm

After a 2043 season that saw the Aztecs unceremoniously dumped from the playoff picture in a competitive JL after sleepwalking through August and September, the team's front office wasted no time in making some changes to the organizational structure. The team announced today that it would be parting ways with ML Hitting Coach Brian Andrews and Bench Coach Luis Icaza effective immediately. Andrews had been with the Mexico City organization since 2039, when he was signed to be hitting coach for the team's AAA affiliate in Los Cabos. He was promoted to the same role with the big league club midway through 2041. Icaza was an off the street hire before the 2043 season to serve as bench coach. His one year tenure goes against the typical Aztec MO, but the team felt the fit was never quite right.

"We would like to thank Brian and Luis for their hard work and dedication during their respective tenures with our organization." GM Fred Holmes said in a statement released by the team, "They are good men and good baseball minds but we needed to face the reality - we had a very disappointing finish to 2043. Everyone in the organization owns a piece of that, myself included, and everyone will be held accountable to reaching the standard of play that we keep as an organization. Sometimes, that means difficult decisions leading to hard changes like today. Our offseason will be a busy one, and we may not be done making changes. Conversations will be had and decisions will be made in an effort to get the Aztecs to where we want to be."

Sources close to the team indicate that ML Manager Jonathan Archer and Pitching Coach Steve Hoffman are likely to be kept on board. There has been no official word on replacements for the newly open positions in the Mexico City dugout, only that the front office will perform an "exhaustive" search of all available candidates looking for the best fits for the team going forward.

This is why I generally spend PP to convert former players or look for names I know in the available coaches list. Do coaches really matter that much? If they do, how much? What do they actually affect? No one seems to know for sure, so I can't say that I going to spend much time trying to control something that I can't really control.
