2042.1 - Dash to Dash? (2041-42 offseason)

Post by Rubaboo » Wed Apr 01, 2020 8:55 am

A developing situation has emerged in Mexico City as Aztec star SS Dashiell Faireborn has taken to social media to voice his dissatisfaction with his role in the Aztec lineup
A series of posts this morning by Faireborn put Aztec management, front office, and a few teammates on blast as the SS detailed his desire to be put in a more marquee position in the lineup.

"We don't make the playoffs again, 3rd year in a row, and these fools have me hitting 7th, 8th, 9th! Talked to Fernie, talked to GM, both call me a "table setter" for the top. Table setter for who? Moreno? Dart? Augie? Why do you set the table for dudes who can't eat? Sick of being shoved in a corner for guys I outplay daily. Talked to GM a few times about my role, told him I'm unhappy, he doesn't listen, doesn't care. I can't do the man's job for him. You can lead a horse to water but, sometimes, you have to make the choice to do the hard thing and drown him for his own good. I love Mexico City, love the fans, but it's time for a change. Play me or trade me."

Reaction from Aztec HQ has been measured to this point. GM Fred Holmes responded to questions via conference call this afternoon.

"We are aware of the social media comments made this morning by Dashiell Faireborn. We understand his frustration and appreciate his passion but, as an organization, we take issue with his decision to make public a situation that, to this point, has been handled behind closed doors and should have remained there. We are extremely disappointed with this going to a public forum and with the decision to name other players in a negative way. We value Dashiell very much as a player and as a person but this is not the way the Mexico City Aztecs conduct business. I will not be goaded into a public battle of words. My last official public comment on this situation is this: We negotiated a contract extension with Dashiell and his representation last season. That contract is a good, fair deal for both sides. We were happy with the result as were they. At no point during those negotiations was there discussion or an agreement over roles or usage. Dashiell is an Aztec player, under contract until after the 2047 season. I see no reason and have no real motivation to change that at this moment. I would welcome further discussion behind closed doors, where things of this nature belong. I will have bo further public comment on Dashiell Faireborn, other than to say he's a quality player and we're happy to have him."

There have been no rumors or reports of any trade discussion surrounding Faireborn and sources close to the Mexico City front office report no communication between club and player. It would appear that we have the makings of a Mexican Standoff down in Old Mexico, and as the offseason marches on the question will be who will blink first.

The dude’s mashing a .108 average. That’s Aztec three hole material!

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.
