2036.4: Barometric Pressure

Post by Rubaboo » Thu Nov 15, 2018 4:10 pm

In a season ending press conference this week, Mexico City GM Fred Holmes was asked the following question: "Has there been any discussion within the Aztec organization about the mounting pressure from the league to build a roof and do you expect plans to be put into place this offseason to construct a roof?"

A simple question but the issue behind it is far from it. Since late 2034 voices around the BBA grumbling about frequent rains in Mexico City causing scheduling headaches for opposing teams and the league as a whole have increased in volume and frequency, even, according to sources, going as far as being a topic on the agenda of the league's governing board. The groans from around the league, although maybe not without merit, have done nothing but fall upon deaf ears in the Mexico City front office.

"We have had no internal discussion about building a roof and have no plans to do so in the forseeable future." responded Holmes, "As an organization and as a fan base, we feel as though the rain has become a part of our franchise's identity. It's a part of baseball in Mexico City. We will fight with every means available to us to prevent any motion that will require us to change or remove a piece of our franchise. The league let Vancouver build a 50 foot wall in right, California moved their fences to the edge of the infield and won the Landis, but we have to build a roof because it rains too much? Please..."

Reports of the commissioner's personal annoyance with the situation did nothing to change Holmes' tone on the subject. "Of course he's annoyed, he runs a team that plays in the desert. They don't like having to deal with the weather. I'll personally buy Matt an umbrella but we're not renovating because grown-ass men are inconvenienced by what falls out of the sky."

When a reporter suggested that perhaps he was missing the point driving the league's consternation, Holmes had the following response: "I get the point. I understand it fully. No one is more affected by the schedule calamity than we are. We've had to fly home for a single game in between sets with Montreal and Charm City. That's a ton of miles. We played 29 games in September this year and one in October. No one has been more inconvenienced by this than us but this is who we are."

If reports out of Mexico City are any indication, the organization is 100% aligned with its GM on the roof front and may even be planning on upping the ante on the precipitation celebration, although nothing formal has come from the team as of yet. Holmes did little to shed light on that subject, saying only that the team "has alot of irons in the fire right now" and that "any details will be released when they are available."

Stay tuned...

Perhaps some slight fact manipulation there...

As a team that plays in the FLP, I can confirm that you gave an accurate description of California's park.

You should change your uniforms to make them look like rain ponchos.

Nice. I like little tongue in cheek stuff like this. Also builds conflict and rivalries.
