2035.1: Turnover

Post by Rubaboo » Wed May 23, 2018 9:52 pm

The Aztecs announced today the firing of longtime pitching coach Bjorn Nepal, thus completing the demolition stage of the management remodel that has been underway seemingly since about July of the 2034 season. Gone from Mexico City are manager Armando Sanchez, bench coach Jaime Rodue, assistant GM Gicheru Gichure, with Nepal the latest head to roll in the Aztec offices.

"We as an organization thank Armando, Jaime, Gicheru and Bjorn for their dedication but we were very disappointed with how 2034 played out on many fronts," said GM Fred Holmes "Personnel change is always difficult but is often a necessary measure to make sure that philosophies don't become stagnant. We are a young and developing team and we felt it was time to go in a different direction to make sure that our up and coming core can reach their fullest potential."

Surviving the purge to this point are hitting coach Lucio Parra and team physician Brandon Carney. Sources indicate that neither individual is likely to be replaced before the 2035 season starts after the offense took a large step forward and the team was largely healthy in 2034.

The team is expected to fill the new openings at the ML level with a mix of coaches from the minor league ranks with Mark Bruner likely to step into the manager role and Jon Hall expected to work with the staff. The bench coach and assistant GM roles will likely be filled with outside candidates. Bruner and Hall are very familiar with the young core of players that the team has promoted or will be promoting shortly, having worked with them in AAA the last several seasons and the hope in Mexico City is that that familiarity will translate into some of the success that they've enjoyed at the AAA level, where the teams affiliates in Halifax and Los Cabos have won 111 and 89 games the last two seasons respectively.
