2034.6: Mexico City brings back a classic

Post by Rubaboo » Sun Mar 04, 2018 11:22 am

Mexico City is bringing another former player coming back into the fold as a minor league coach, as GM Fred Holmes released a statement announcing that former Barnstormer closerJavier Alomar has been hired to be the pitching coach for the Spike Nolan League Bismarck Pioneers.

"This a great opportunity for us to bring a former player who ranks high among the best players from our franchise back into the organization to share his knowledge and experiences with our young players and help them grow into the stars of tomorrow. We are very excited that Javier has decided to come back and join the ranks of our minor league coaches," read a statement released by the Aztecs GM.

Alomar was acquired by the Omaha/Mexico City organization from the then Marquette Suns organization midway through the 2008 season and played with the Barnstormers until he was traded to Halifax, along with Steve Hoffman, in 2017. During his 9+ seasons with Omaha, he appeared in 583 games, compiling a 45-54 record and recording 267 saves which still stands as a franchise record. He pitched a total of 615.1 innings, striking out 796 and walking 388. He posted an ERA of 3.31, good for 5th on the franchise leaderboard, and is the franchise's all team leader in K/9 with 11.6.

Alomar will join a Bismarck staff that will be entirely made up of entirely rookie coaches that are all former Barnstormer players, managed by Jonathan Archer and with Bob Burke as hitting coach.
