2034.4: Mexico City Brings in Archer

Post by Rubaboo » Sat Feb 24, 2018 3:28 pm

The Aztecs added another former player into the coaching mix, as the team announced an agreement with Jonathan Archer to become the manager of the Spike Nolan League Bismarck Pioneers.

"We're very excited to have Jonathan back with the organization. If you ask around the league, everyone who has worked with him will tell you the same thing - he is a leader of men. I have no doubt that Jonathan's leadership will translate into a successful managerial career." Said Mexico City GM Fred Holmes on the signing.

Archer - "I had a lot of fun with the Omaha organization when I played here. This is really a first class organization and I look forward to the challenge of helping to develop the next generations of talent. I've talked to Bobby already and Fred and I spoke about some options to take the role of pitching coach next season for me. I think it's going to be good, I'm excited to get started."

Archer will be taking over a Bismarck team that went 42-58 in 2033 but will be starting from scratch coaching-wise in 2034. The team has already hired former player Bob Burke to be the hitting coach in Bismarck and is reportedly close to reaching an agreement with a pitching coach. It is unknown whether the team will be in Bismarck in 2034 or playing somewhere else as sweeping changed are expected to the Mexico City minor league system this offseason.

Archer played was acquired by the Barnstormers at the 2022 trade deadline in a 7 player swap with the then Halifax Hawks. He played in Omaha through 2026 and was traded to Jacksonville before the 2027 season. His stats with the Barnstormers: .293/.314/.446, 255 runs, 125 2B, 16 3B, 69 HRs, 299 RBI, 20.6 WAR.

Archer became a bit of a folk hero after he was acquired by the Barnstormers. On August 21, the team trailed their bitter rivals, the Hunstville Phantoms, by 13.5 games in the division. The acquisition of Archer ignited the Barnstormers and they pulled even with the Phantoms on the last day of the regular season, eventually winning a 1 game playoff and making the postseason at 80-83.

Great player. Always regretted trading him. It was a good deal for me, but hated losing him.
