2034.2: Prowler returns

It was an event that may have gone unnoticed by many casual fans in Mexico City but the excitement in the air was palpable inside the Aztec front office today as former Barnstormer Bob Burke was in the house. Burke was in town to hammer out the final details of a contract that will bring him back to the organization as a minor league hitting coach.

"I'm excited to be back," said Burke to a small group of reporters after concluding his meeting with Aztec officials. "I had a great run with this organization back in the day and having a year off in retirement showed me I still have the itch to be around the game. I missed it and I was very happy to get the call from [Aztec GM] Fred."

GM Holmes on Burke's return: "Bob was obviously a big part of our success during his time here. He was an asset to this franchise as a player and I would expect the same with him in the dugout. Our young players will only benefit from his influence. We're excited to have him back with us."

Burke's hiring ends speculation that started with his one year return to the franchise as a player in 2031 where he DHed for a team that struggled to a 72-90 record.

"2031 was a tough year but it really served two purposes for me personally; it removed all doubt for me that retirement was the correct choice and it opened a channel of communication about my baseball future." said Burke.

Burke signed with the Barnstormers as a free agent before the 2022 season and played with the organization from 2022-2027 and in 2031. His career numbers with the team: .282/.336/.460, 904 hits, 171 2B, 21 3B, 119 HR, 463 RBI, 28.4 WAR. Burke will begin his coaching career with Mexico City's Rookie League affiliate in Bismarck.
