Barnstormers Press Conference - 1995 (No.1 part 2)

The Barn. Omaha, Nebraska.
March 26th, 1995

“Thank you Meat! Well I still can’t believe I’m here, I look around this room and you can sense the history in this venerable franchise. An historic franchise but an underachieving one. Nine divisional titles should have led to more than four league championship series and not one world series appearance. Meat has hired me to change that, it’s been five long seasons since a divisional title and indeed two seasons since Omaha bettered .500 ball and I hope to address that straight away.”

“Everything is in full swing now as we prepare for the upcoming 1995 season. To be honest it’s all a blur to me at the moment but I can confirm the Barnstormers minor league affiliates. The Halifax Fighting Scots playing out of Halifax, Nova Scotia will be our Triple A franchise while our Double A side, The Praying Mantis, will play in Parker, South Dakota and finally our rookies will head to nearby Council Bluffs where The Express will compete as our A ball franchise.”

“I know you’ve all got plenty of questions about the make-up of the Barnstormers roster but I won’t be answering any today. All options are still being assessed although I can tell you we will be in the market for some help for the rotation. The other thing I have to say today is that we won’t be rushing the MBBA’s 10th top prospect to the Majors! is only 16, our job is to keep him grounded and focused on making the most of his talents. He’s got a lot to learn and to that end will start Armando Santos the season in Council Bluffs and see where he goes from there. I’m an old fashioned manager I like to see my players to do time at each level and prove to me they are ready for the next step up.”
“Thank you for your attendance at what we hope will be the first of many weekly press conferences and I can announce that The Omaha World-Herald will be the official newspaper of the Barnstormers. They will provide a monthly special on the team and its affiliates as well as pull-outs in the off season.”

It's going to take a while, but Santos looks to be a monster.

Total beast, and with that work ethic, he'll probably meet the expectations.

The Parker Paying Mantis might be the coolest minor league franchise name.
