That's What Cheesehead: 08.06 - May Recap

As the pages on the calendar turn and the weather starts to warm up, so do the Wolves traditionally. Thus far in 2008, the trends holds true. The Wolves went 16-13 in May to bring their overall record up to .500 at 28-28 for the season. The Wolves continue to feel as if the team will get itself straightened out moving forward. History suggests they will. While it may be crazy to expect a 2nd half like the one the Wolves pulled out in 2007, the front office still feels the team is too good to be sitting at .500 and the law of averages will eventually work their way out and we'll see the Wolves contending with and hopefully overtaking Chicago for the division lead.
Hitter of the Month

Charles Puckett
It was a close call in May between Puckett and Kengos. Kengos hit .353/.397/.630 with 9 homeruns and 30 RBI, but I felt Puckett's stat line of .402/.493/.732 with 8 homeruns and 25 RBI was better. As has been the case with these two great sluggers for most of their career, Kengos edges out Crickett in homeruns and RBI, but Crickett dominates Bopper in the stat line categories. Barring an unfortunate injury, Puckett likely has yet another Silk Award locked up as he is batting .415/.500/.763 on the season with 17 homeruns, 46 RBI, and 19 stolen bases. With all the talk about WAR lately, it is worth mentioning that Puckett has a WAR of 6.2, puts him on pace for an 18+ WAR by the end of the season, which would shatter the all-time record of 14.6 held by.... PUCKETT!
Pitcher of the Month

Jorge Garcia
For two straight months, I have given our pitcher of the month honor to a reliever. This isn't shaking out well if the Wolves have plans of winning their 12th consecutive division title. But with that said, let's not take anything away from Garcia who had an outstanding May. He appeared in 12 games, logging 14 innings pitched, and posting a 0.64 ERA. Garcia struck out 21 for the month compared to just 5 walks. He allowed only 1 run in May and posted an even 1.00 WHIP.
