We've asked our and coming new staff reporter.... OpenGP....<err> Chuck Newsflash, to submit his story...
Jacob Smiley was a 28-year-old free agent pitcher looking for a new team when he caught the attention of the Madison Wolves. The team was impressed with his fastball and signed him to a 4 million dollar contract for the 2052 season. But shortly after signing the contract, Smiley's career took a turn for the worst.
One night, after a night out at the strip club "The Raunchy Raccoon," Smiley stumbled home intoxicated and fell off the roof of his house, leaving him temporarily paralyzed. The Madison Wolves quickly cut him from the team and he was left to recover in the hospital.
While in the hospital, the Las Vegas Hustlers took notice of Smiley's talent and offered him a 2 million dollar contract, which he eagerly accepted. The Madison Wolves were not pleased with this development and filed a lawsuit against Smiley, claiming he owed them the remaining 4 million dollars of his contract.
The case was brought before Judge Rufus "Bubba" Jones at the law firm of "Git 'Er Done Legal Services." Smiley, representing himself, argued that the Madison Wolves had no right to the remaining money because he was unable to fulfill his contract due to the injury.
However, the Wolves' legal team, led by the slick-talking attorney "Fast-Talking Freddy," presented evidence that Smiley had spent a large portion of his signing bonus on lap dances and cocaine at the Raunchy Raccoon and other strip clubs. They also uncovered that Smiley had used some of the money to fund an offshore-based roofing company staffed by illegal aliens, including "Juan the Juan" and "Sneaky Sergio."
Despite Smiley's reckless behavior and lack of legal representation, Judge Jones ruled in favor of the Madison Wolves. Smiley was ordered to pay back the remaining 2 million dollars, plus legal fees.
Smiley, now broke and unable to afford legal counsel, was forced to represent himself in the appeal process. It was a disaster from the start, as he constantly interrupted the proceedings with outbursts and inappropriate comments about the strippers he visited with the signing bonus money.
The appeal was denied and Smiley was left with no choice but to declare bankruptcy and move on with his career with the Las Vegas Hustlers. Though his time with the Wolves was brief and tumultuous, Smiley will always be remembered as the player who fell off the roof and lost a lawsuit over lap dances and illegal aliens.
