Shimizu
The front office decided to spend money on its own this offseason and not some FA, by extending the face of the franchise. This off-season, the Wolves did just that, by signing superstar and face of the franchise Manobu Shimizu to a 6 year $120M contract. The budding BBA superstar is now committed to play for the Wolves for at least his first 12 seasons. "This was a no-brainer on our part." said GM Simon. With the off-season mandate from ownership to lock this guy up, we had the financial backing to get this deal done. We were working back and forth with agent since last year, but Manobu made it clear he wouldn't talk extension until the final year of his current contract. As the league offseason calendar turned to 2048, the talks began in earnest.
Looking back as his career to date, Shimizu is in 4th place all-time for WAR for the Wolves with 38.2. Based on his track record he should move into 3rd place passing Dave Manazanillo (41.3) 7 seasons (1986-1992). He will still be behind the two all-time greats & HOF in BBA history, Charles Puckett (168.2) & Bopper Kengos (127.0). Both play 23 seasons for the franchise.
Seeing where this young league superstar sits in some of the Wolves all-time batting registry, its easy to see why the club wanted to keeps its 2038 1st rounder in a Wolves Jersey.
