2047 continued to build on the success of last season. The team finished above .500 (84-78) for the first time in a decade (2037), and its highest spot in the standings since the hardest division in baseball (#Heartland) was expanded to 8 teams. The team also improved on its team batting average and lowered its team ERA compared to 2046. Once again the club drew over 2.9M fanatic Wolves fans though the gates at Shotz Stadium.

Pitching: The club improved its overall ranking in the conference, once again having the team ERA drop for the 3rd consecutive year down to (3.87), almost a full run less than 2 years ago. The club continued to build on its strengths, ended up having the 4th best overall bullpen in the Frick, up from last seasons rankings.

Defense: The club ended up finished 2nd in the FL (behind Omaha) for overall defensive plays above average, (43.5 vs 43.3). But the team was tops for GB efficiency with a 35.9 ranking (good enough for 3rd in the BBA). Nice work fellas.

Hitting: The club ended up ranked 1st in AVG, Hits, 2nd in OBP, Strikeouts, and top 4 in Walks, and Stolen Base's. The team was top 10 in every offensive category except for HRs (14th) and Extra-base hits (15th). Partially to blame is the ball-park we play in.

The club started a little slow out of the gate playing .434 (23-30) the first two months of the season. But when May hit, the club found its groove and played at a .559 clip (61-48) the rest of the way. Looking at our records vs our opponents, if you asked me who we'd have the worst division record against this season, Des Moines wouldn't have been in my top 5. Obviously missing the finally playoff spot by 1 game, and seeing this makes you think, every game DOES matter.

#Heartland
Twin Cities River Monsters 10-4
Louisville Sluggers 8-6
Nashville Bluebirds 8-6
Yellow Springs Nine 7-7
Omaha Cyclones 6-8
Chicago Black Sox 6-8
Des Moines Kernels 5-9

Pacific
Hawaii Tropics 8-0
Valencia Stars 6-2
Portland Lumberjacks 5-3
Vancouver Mounties 4-4
Long Beach Surfers 3-5
Seattle Storm 3-5
San Fernando Bears 3-5
Sacramento Mad Popes 2-6

Circling back on our primary area of focus from 2046, was the teams ability to not win one-run or extra inning games. In 2047, the needle got to pointing in the right direction. The Club played in a total of 71 one run / x-tra inning games in 2047, down from 81 last season. However, the results were promising with a 37-34 record and a .521 winning percentage. Diving a little deeper into the numbers for these type of games, we won more games (37 vs 31) and lost 17 less. This in part helped the increase its win total by 12 games.

Awards:
Offensive Player of the year:
Image
Manobu Shimizu

Hard to argue with a man who's won back-to-back hitting titles in the BBA. Posting a .371 average and 6.53 WAR. Nuff said.

New Comer of the year (Hitting):

Luis Manuel Alonzo

Alonzo didn't crack the opening day roster, but it was hard enough to keep this guy away. Playing in his first BBA season the left hitting CF played in 116 games this year, platooning with veteran CF Rocky Allen. He posted a .309 / .380 / .412 slash along with 2.65 WAR.

Comeback Player of the year:
Image
Jamie Herrera

Bouncing back from a 2-3 record with 14.2 IP and a 11.66 ERA in 2045, Herrera spent the 2046 in AAA honing his craft, and it paid off in 2047. Herrera went 18-1 and tossed 108.2 innings out of the bullpen. "He did exactly what we wanted him to do for us." said GM Simon.

Pitcher of the year:

Yorikane Miyamoto

Death taxes and Miyamoto. Another solid season for Miyamoto in 2046. He continued to eat innings again (181), increasing his K% (24.2) to the highest of his career, and producing a career low FIP (3.43). "We just need to find a guy to pair with him in the front-end of the rotation." GM Simon said.

New Comer of the year (Pitching):

Todd Stone

The former 2046 first round selection of the Wolves fast tracked his way to the BBA, spending only one season in the minors. In his rookie campaign he posted a team 2.01 ERA with a 1.61 FIP along with 16 Saves while striking out 140 and walking only 15 in 98.2 innings. He also garnered the respect of this peers by winning the Reliver of the year, and 4th in the Joe Gillstrom Newcomer of the year award.
