Charlottesville, VA

Well its been about a week since all 25 2046 draft prospects have signed and reported to camp. Most of them have gotten a full week of games under there belt, so lets take a look at who racked up some playing time so far....

Round 2 - RP - Dave Ferrell - Slotted right into the closers role in the first 7 games of the season he has appeared in 2 games in the series vs the Assateague Ponies, pitching 2 innings, allowing 0 hits, 1K, and recording 2 saves. Facing the minimum amount of batters each inning. 3-up-3-down. Very efficient kiddo. Based off this small sample size, I sense multiple "Nebraska's" heading his way... ;)

Round 3 - CF - Jesse Peterson - The 19yo multi-faceted player started his first 7 games DH'ing. Proving he can do it with the bat posting a .440/.500/.600 slash and leads the team in WAR already. Talking to the coaches at Charlottesville, we are looking to start to rotate him at all OF positions, starting next game.

Round 4 - SS - Gustavo Robles - Aye, Aye, Aye. Its a good think this kid can field. Through the first 7 games the 19yo starting SS for the Marching Ants is posting a .083/.233/.333 slash line. He's was drafted for his glove, and infield versatility. He leads the team in ZR and Def Ef through 7 games making 0 errors in 28 total chances. Ol' Cricket will keep his eye on this kid as the tapes come in from Charlottesville.

Round 6 - RP - Tom Montgomery - Tossed 7 innings in his first week with the club, picked up the loss, but it was a productive outing, scatting 6 hits over those 7 innings striking out 2 walking only 1.

Round 10 - SP - Gustavo Santos - 5.2 innings pitched this week, 0 runs 3 hits, 4K and 0BB. He held opponents to a .176 BABIP. Picking up a win along the way.

Round 11 - SP - Pedro Fuentes - The 22yo tossed 7.1 innings in his one outing during the week, allowing only 3 hits striking out 10, and walking 0. Pretty good start for the 11th round selection.

Round 13 - RP - Vern Woodworth - Threw 5 innings allowing 1 run and striking out 5. Good enough for a 1.80 ERA for the week.

Round 14 - RP - Sam Dumas - Pitched and inning and a 1/3 allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run.

Round 16 - 3B - Nacho Magana - This kid is putting up some great #s for a 16th round selection out Aflac College. He currently leads the team with his slash of .600/.667/1.200. OK, OK its only been two games so far. ;). (See report for Allen), as these two will be competing at 3B all season.

Round 17 - CF - Kevin Mosley - Mosley got the nod at the teams starting CF, but I don't know how much longer he can hope to hold off Peterson. Mosely is a slightly better CF defensively than Peterson, but he needs to improve his offensive #s. Through 7 games he's posting a .167/.194/.167 slash. Perhaps some competition will do him some good.

Round 18 - 3B - Lawrence Allen - Another 2046 selection that has made his way into the starting line for the Marching Ants. The 19yo is the starting 3B, but he struggling a bit with the bat posting a .167/.250/.528 slash through the first 7 games of the season. He has been a solid defender over at the hot-corner though, with a 2.70 RF, with 0 errors in 15 chances. Its tough fought battle as he's sharing time with 2046's Nacho Magana.

Round 19 - RP - Tom King - Pitched 3.2 innings in his first week out of the pen, coming out of it with a 9.82 ERA. Allowing 9 hits and 4 ERs. There are some UFA chomping at your heels kid!

Round 20 - SP - Ken Davis - Pitched .2 innings of ball this first week of the club as a left-handed specialist out of pen. He did well retiring both men he faced.

....on my way to St. Johns to check in there next!

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.
