Madison – With spring training now behind the 2041 Madison Wolves are ready to open the season in the confines of Shotz Stadium vs Valencia on April 1st. New Wolves Manager Yves Lemoine held his inaugural press conference.

Let’s take a look at the team’s records vs Valencia:
  • All Time vs Valencia - Madison Wolves 19 - 28 Valencia Stars
  • Last Game vs Valencia – 8/2/2040 – (L 15-3)
  • Last year vs Valencia – 0-8
  • Last win vs Valencia – 8/31/39 (4-3)

When asked by the press about this upcoming season, Lemoine responded to the press. “Our focus is on game 1. We need to start off winning at least one game vs the Stars. Going 0-8 vs a team in any season is unacceptable. We haven’t won a game against them dating back to 2039. We need to turn the culture around in this clubhouse, and it starts with me. I have learned in my time with Rockville what it takes to win on a consistent basis in this league”.

“This team’s offense wasn’t major a concern last season, if we can at least hold par on that side of the game, we will be OK. Where we need to improve is with our pitching. We are going to have to do some creative things this season.”
When asked what, he replied “You’ll just have to wait and see”.

When asked about his managers new method of handling the pitching staff this year, GM Mike Simon simply answered..

To say Madison’s pitching staff was bad last year would be an insult to bad pitching staffs. The teams 5.39 ERA was second worst in the division, only behind Twin Cities. However, the teams staff allowed opposing hitters to bat .287 with a .359 OBP (both worst in the Heartland). Not good.
If this team has any hope of playing .500 ball (or above) will rely on the pitching staff this year. Going into week 1 of the season the projected starters (barring any further injuries) looks to be set.

I believe you have those roles backwards on the opener follower pairings. The opener is a reliever who will get you through the first inning maybe 1.5. The follower is the guy who will actually get credit for starting the game and will throw 3-5 innings.

From the OOTP Manual...(thanks I flip-flopped)

Use as Opener Use the pitcher in the "Opener" role, where he starts the game but is limited to a few (usually 1-2) innings, at which time he is replaced by a "Follower."

Use as Follower Use the pitcher in the "Follower" role, where he is designated to come into the game in relief of a player using the "Opener" role.

"There are two ways to handle an Opener/Follower system, differing slightly in their exact mechanics:

Set starters in the rotation normally, and in their game strategies, set them to be Followers. In your bullpen, set some relievers (usually around 2) to have a secondary role of Opener. When a starter's spot in the rotation comes up and he's marked as a Follower, one of the Openers will start instead if they're rested. If no Openers are available, the starter will start himself (unless opener usage for the team is set to "always" in Team Strategy, in which case a random reliever will be used.) Using this method, the Openers may still pitch other games in the bullpen according to their primary role, so that situation is more likely to happen.

Put relievers in the rotation with their strategy set to Opener, and then put the starters in the bullpen with their secondary role set to Follower. In this case, the Openers will never pitch in relief, but the Followers may, leading to them not being rested enough to work as a Follower in a particular game.
Note that in both cases a player placed in the rotation must use the Player Strategy option to set his status as an Opener or Follower, and a player in the bullpen must use the Secondary Role to set his status as an Opener or Follower."

Yup. I have the followers in their proper rotation spots and the openers in the pen because I do not want the chaos that would be caused by ootp accidentally using a follower in relief
