That's What Cheeseehad: 39.10 - Wilson Bolts After 0-6 Sim

Post by 7teen » Fri Aug 09, 2019 1:58 pm

Things looked good in Madison. For a while. The team was scoring a ton of runs. Not giving up quite a ton but close to it. The team was hovering around the .500 mark and the club was in some sort of post-season hunt. That has all come crashing down and things are about to change drastically in Madison.

After an 0-6 week that saw the Wolves lose to Boise, Montreal, and Yellow Springs and falling to 11.5 games out of first, General Manager Chris Wilson announced today that he was leaving Madison to become the next General Manager of the expansion franchise in Portland.

"It is what it is" said Wilson in a brief press conference today. The man who had spent 31 seasons at the helm of the Wolves organization had mixed feelings on the decision. "I hate to leave the franchise and the city I spent such a long time with but at some point, you have to move on. We had a lot of success early on during my tenure here but it's been a rocky road and a rough situation the last decade. While the decision did not hinge on the last stretch of games, it definitely makes it easier to make this official now."

Wilson led the team to 2 Landis Titles in 2004 and in 2009 and a long string of division titles in the same decade. But after that run, the team has fallen on rough times. The club has only won one division in the last 17 seasons and has only been to the post-season four times in the last 2 decades.

"Again, some could put that blame on me. I'm sure I deserve some of it. But when you have key players breaking their foot, their main asset, changing tires it's time to get out of this place and move on elsewhere. To the next guy, I'm leaving you a gold mine. Too bad it's fools gold!"

Since the 2039 season is still underway, it seems Wilson will still be in charge of things in Madison though reports indicate he's already in Portland overseeing stadium construction and planning draft strategies with CEO David Wallace.

Currently sitting at the #6 pick. That draft position could get better with Raider out for a while.
