That's What Cheesehead: 39.07 - We're Going Streaking!

Post by 7teen » Thu Jul 18, 2019 10:20 am

No, no! Calm down. We're not talking about the Kate, the former sexy secretary of Wolves yesteryear. We are talking about the entire Wolves team! No, we're not talking nude streaking through the quad or even around the bases. We are talking about this team's ability to go hot and cold in stretches. The Wolves have played 57 games this season and sit at 28-29 for the year. But getting to that 28-29 mark has been a roller coaster run.

"It has been an odd start for sure" said Wolves manager Millard Davis. "We've been all over the place this season. But I"m not sure which route is better at getting to where we are. Would you rather just have consistent stretches of .500 weeks? Or do you take the dismal lows of a losing streak but the extreme highs that come with a long winning streak? Regardless, we are who we are and hopefully can stick around the .500 mark long enough to keep ourselves in some sort of hunt."

The opening month started much like that .500 stretch team Davis referenced. The Wolves did have a 4-game and 3-game losing streak in April but also had a trio of 3-game winning streaks to put the club at 13-14 in April. But May has been a wild ride. The opening week of May saw the Wolves go 1-6 thanks to a 5-game losing stretch against Hawaii and Calgary. The Wolves stopped the bleeding briefly with a pair of wins only to drop 8 straight games again against Omaha, Yellow Springs, and Hawaii. Things seemed lost for the Wolves.

The club went on the road and traveled to Brooklyn and magic kicked in. From May 20 to May 31, the Wolves never lost. That's 11 straight days. 11 straight games. No losses. The Wolves swept Brooklyn, traveled to Seattle and swept the Storm, then came home and swept San Fernando. They finished off the month with a win against Long Beach to complete the longest winning streak in decades in Wolves history.

"Well the saying goes" added Davis, "you're never as bad as you look at your worst. And you're never as good as you look at your best. We aren't a 'lose 8 in a row team' but we're also not a 'win 11 straight' type of team either. I guess luckily for us right now the division is tight and contested with no one really running away so perhaps we can maintain some solid play and stay in the hunt for the division. There is still a lot of baseball left to play."

"If we win 11 straight again" added Jon Mick, "I'm going streaking. For real! Feast on this fellas!"
