That's What Cheesehead: 38.50- Down on the Farm - Water Wolves

General Manager Chris Wilson bursts into media room, screaming "Who in the hell is writing these minor league reports and when are you going to talk about our good prospects and good teams?" The other members of the press look around puzzled. Perhaps they're puzzled over who is writing them. Perhaps puzzled by what Wilson means by "good prospects". Or perhaps they're unsure at this point what a "good team" is. No one answers. Wilson slams the podium with his fists and storms out of the room.

Perhaps the Wolves short A team in Saint Johns is the medicine that'll cure Wilson's ills. Right.

Wrong!

The Water Wolves played 70 games this season. They won just 15. They finished the season with a negative 212 run differential. That run differential was more than the runs they scored on offense. The Wolves had 0, yes that's zero with a capital Z, of their top prospects at the Short A team's location this season. The team finished dead last in runs scored and dead last in runs allowed. They finished 23 games out of first.

Just so someone can get some press, Carlos Moran hit 14 homeruns and drove in 31 RBI to lead the team in both categories. He finished 2nd in WAR with a whopping 0.6 WAR. At 22, Moran is a fully matured dud of a player who will never make it much higher than where he is now until he eventually fades into the lump of minor leaguers of the past.

Putra Sukarto, or the Papuan Putra as he was called this season, led the pitching staff. He only went 2-5 in 13 starts but did post a 2.45 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. His manager, Grux King once said of Sukarto "He throws left handed so there is that. Other than that, the only thing keeping him out of the big leagues is his stuff, movement, control, and quality pitches."
