That's What Cheesehead: 38.49 - Down on the Farm: Crush

Dear god this just keeps getting more depressing. A bottom of the league big league club and then a minor league system that is putrid. The Boulder Crush finished 2038 with a record of 35-96 to finish 41.5 games behind the Aspen Surge in the Provost League West standings. Anytime you look on a roster, regardless of when, and see 0 players listed on the "Who's Hot" side but see eight listed on the "Who's Not" side, you can only assume things are bad. Real bad!

The pitching in Boulder ranked dead last in every category. Oh what's that? They were 10th in homeruns allowed? Oh, well that's good. But other than that, they were dead last. Dead. Freaking. Last. In EVERYTHING! Belchior Barracas (Wolves #11 Prospect) had an ok season in Boulder. Despite a future as a reliever, Barracas started 20 contests in Boulder and finished with a 7-11 overall record, 4.18 ERA, and 1.16 WHIP. He led the team with a 1.8 WAR. Heliodoro Almansa emerged out of nowhere to post a 5-3 record and 2.17 ERA. "I don't know how he did it" said Crush pitching coach Luis Tiant, IV. "His stuff always looked hittable but he somehow got outs." Two other pitchers combined for 32 total losses. They don't need their names mentioned.

The offense, was well, nearly as bad as the pitching. The Crush ranked dead last in 7 statistical categories including runs scored. Mauro Soto, playing SS, produced 2.2 WAR at Single A thanks to a .296/.322/.398 line. He has some defenisve potential as a SS or RF in the BBA but many wonder if his hitting will be good enough to make it. The same goes for CF Tony Caudill (Wolves #19 Prospect). He produced 1.8 WAR this season despite an OPS under .700 thanks in large part to some solid defense. Katsumi Ono, at 1B, had one of the more amazing stats we've seen out of a minor league this year. Ono walked just 9 times in 430 appearances at the plate while striking out 126 times. Yep, he struck out 13 times to every 1 walk.
