That's What Cheesehead: 38.47 - Down on the Farm: Proudest Monkeys Recap

While the 2039 season has been bad up in Madison, it has been an abysmal one for the Wolves AAA affiliate out of South Bend, the Proudest Monkeys. The Monkeys, under the guidance of former Wolves pitcher Tyree Wills, finished dead last in the Roundfield Midwestern League standings with a record of 51-81. That was bad enough to finish 17.5 games out of first in a pretty bad division that saw first place Indianapolis take the division despite finishing only 5 games over .500.

Pitching and Offense were both equally poor this season in South Bend. The offense ranked next to last in runs scored while the pitching ranked 12th of 15 teams in terms of runs allowed.

On the pitching side there weren't a whole lot of notables (yeah, that bodes well for this franchise). Ken Ayers led the team with a 1.5 WAR on the season but has no chance of ever making it to the big league squad. The 23 year old Ayers at this point is destined for a life in the minor leagues. He does have a winning minor league record and a positive WAR so at least he's holding his own on the farm. Habib Mahsud Khel, everyone's favorite Pakistani player, had a solid year that has seen him since get some action in Madison in September. Khel had a 3.41 ERA and 0.92 WHIP this season which has forced the Wolves to give him another look. Victorio Contreras has split his season between Madison and South Bend. The Wolves have used him the second half of the season since he's a lefty. He had a 2.74 ERA and 1.26 WHIP upon the call-up.

On the hitting side, the Monkeys had no big name prospects on their roster this season. Lance Robinson saw himself shuffled out of the Madison outfield rotation this year and is in that tough AAAA mode now. He performed well in South Bend this season, hitting .285/.412/.507 wit 24 homeruns and 73 runs batted in. The 26 year old had a pair of full seasons in Madison earlier in his career and had positive WARs both times He's just turned into the odd-man out of a stacked outfield at the moment. He's been rewarded since the AAA season ended and has gotten 3 plate appearances in September with Madison.
