That's What Cheesehead: 38.38 - Even Steven In July

Post by 7teen » Mon May 06, 2019 8:50 am

After a June that saw the Wolves play their best baseball of the season, July rolled in and saw the Wolves cool off a little and finish with an even 13-13 record which was good enough for their 2nd best month of the season. The team was playing pretty good through the first part of the month until injuries piled up. The team dropped 3 of their final 4 games of July and are now facing a nearly impossible task of trying to make it back to the post-season in 2038.

"It's not looking good" said manager Millard Davis. "We've just never gotten things rolling this year. Everytime we appear to take a step forward we slip and fall back a step or two. Obviously there is still time for a hot stretch but with the injuries we've taken on this month it could be asking too much. Good play from ourselves may not be enough at this point. We'd likely need help, and from several teams at that, if we want to return to the post-season this year."

Despite several injuries, the Wolves offense has still held its own thanks in large part to guys like sophomore sensation Andrew Torres. Torres hit .359/.406/.594 in July with 4 homeruns and 13 runs batted in. He scored a season high 15 runs for the month of July and has now captured back to back hitters of the month honors for the team.

You can typically just throw all of the Wolves pitchers into a hat and whichever one doesn't come out smelling like shit just give them the award. Well Diaz actually came out of July smelling like a rose. Diaz pitched 18 relief innings in July, allowing just 2 earned runs on 12 hits, 5 walks, and striking out 19. He picked up 2 wins and a save in July, making him a perfect 6-0 on the season with 3 saves. Diaz continues to be a stabilizing force in the Wolves bullpen as he inches closer yet again to another 80 inning relief season.
