That's What Cheesehead: 37.13 - Wolves Unveil Plan to Compete

Post by 7teen » Mon Dec 10, 2018 9:11 am

A lot of talk has been made in recent days and years about some teams "plans" to compete and about the "Process" to compete and win a Landis. Wolves General Manager Chris Wilson has never been one for long term plans. His fly by the seat of his pants approach to running an organization has led to some success and has often to led to league wide criticism and critique. 2037 appears to be leaning towards the latter of those two scenarios as the Wolves roster construction has left the team open for a lot of puzzled looks around the league that it appears on Wilson can explain in a positive context. That bewilderment was raised again when Wilson announced how the 2037 team plans to remain in the hunt for a post-season spot.

"When you are a team stuck in the middle" said Wilson today, "you have to find creative ways to contend in this league. We probably aren't a title contender right now, nor are we the worst looking girl at the dance, but we are sort of just stuck in the middle. We have some strong points, we have some weaknesses. What we are going to try and do this year is highlight those strengths and see if they can propel us a little further."

What those strengths are, in Wilson's eyes, was not what those at the press hearing expected as opening day is just around the corner.

"We have a good looking bunch" added Wilson. "Our team is a very attractive group of guys. I mean look at Mons Raider. To be 26 year old and have enough confidence in yourself to carry a handlebar mustache means something. Same goes for Ross Quicker. Most 20 year olds would save the lip cover for a later stage in life but not him. These guys are the faces of our franchise."

So as the "faces" of the franchise, Wilson has added extra mirrors to the home clubhouse with plans to take extra ones on road trips. "It was a minor operating cost but one we think is worth it" said Wilson. "We installed 27 mirrors in the clubhouse, one for each player, and we intend to take the same number of hand mirrors on the road. These guys look too good not to realize it. You look good, you play good! Right?"

The second plan for contention is the Wolves will add a pre-game player introduction prior to every home game. "It'll look a lot like an NBA type atmosphere" said Wilson. "Or maybe hockey. I don't know, but we're gonna do more to fire up the home fans and our team. Not that we need energy, but this added boost will surely put us over the top."

Plans for what the Wolves intend to do before the game are still up in the air. Some speculate it'll be nothing more than the Wolves PA announcer announcing each player individually over loud music. Wilson did add a little insight. "We've invested in some smoke machines too. We are going to set them up all around the field and at the entrace and exit to the dugout. These players will surface from the dugout to a field of smoke, loud music, and the works. It'll be a spectacle for sure."

It appears the plan for more "mirrors and smoke" was the idea of newly signed Wolves free agent Elroy Hinson. "A lot of it was Elroy's idea" concluded Wilson. "That guy has played in a lot of places and seen a lot of different ways of doing things. He's a true leader. Clearly he knows a thing or two about winning baseball. The players all love having him on the team."

The mirrors and smoke dipsy-doodle is a bold move that only a Heartland team would have the guts to pull off. :)
