Beaucage was acquired by the Wolves last off-season in the big trade with Jacksonville that brought both Mario Gonzalez and Jose Cavazos to the Wolves. It was hoped that Beaucage could provide some offensive production as a platoon guy against left handed pitching. He didn't provide much has his .651 OPS indicates and despite decent defense, Leon still posted a -0.5 WAR last season.
"We would have kept Leon had we needed him" said Wolves General Manager Chris Wilson. "But we have quite a few guys on our 40-man roster who can produce what Leon did last season and it was a financial decision. Leon just didn't have a spot on this team in 2037 so we let him go."
Leon did not sit in free agency long. The Calgary Marauders swept in this past week and offered Beuacage a minor league contract a $20,000 signing bonus to join the club's farm system. Considering he's taken a ratings hit already this off-season, the odds of Leon making a big league club any time soon may be slim.
