That's What Cheesehead: 36.49 - Top Prospects Report to St. Augustine

Post by 7teen » Sat Nov 10, 2018 2:22 pm

As the 2036 season comes to a painful conclusion this week, it is only beginning for some of the top prospects in the Wolves' farm system. The Florida Prospect League kicks off play in the next few days and some of the Wolves' top players from their minor leagues will be reporting to duty this week to train and play some games in the sunshine state. Fans are flocking to Florida now to witness some of the top young names to eventually play in the BBA. Here are some of the players to highlight the St. Augustine Wolves' roster.

Image Axel DeGiusti (10/4/8 Talents)
DeGisuti has emerged from nowhere as our top pitching prospect and the Wolves' #2 overall prospect. Axel had a really good season this year at AAA where he went 10-9 overall with a 2.91 ERA. Obviously there are a lot of concerns over his 4 MO rating as a potential BBA starter so the jury is still out on whether that will work. If not, we think he could manifest into a really good reliever similar to what Madison has seen from Hector Diaz (10/3/9 Ratings) and Harold Lane (9/4/8 Ratings).

Image Lorenzo Solis (9/7/5 Talents)
Solis is our #2 pitching prospect and #4 overall guy. A former SP convert, the jury is out here as well as to whether or not Solis will ever mature enough to make it to the BBA as SP converts are few and far between. AT the age of 19, Solis still has some maturing to do, especially with his overall Stuff rating and his changeup. Solis spent most of his time this season in A-Ball where he went 8-10 with a 3.86 ERA in 26 starts.

Image Andrew Torres (9/9/8/5/8 Talents)
Torres was our first overall pick in the 2036 draft and our current overall #1 prospect. Despite being listed as a 1B, he'll be developing more as a leftfielder (I thought I changed that already but it hasn't shown. I changed it again in this export) Torres had a monster season in Rookie ball this season where he hit .297/.366/.522 with 9 homeruns and 38 RBI. He's already gained a lot of ratings in LF and some extra games there this winter may only help that. He's expected to move way up in the Wolves farm system next season and could see action in the BBA as soon as 2038.

Image Emilio Lugo (8/9/7/5/8 Talents)
While the chances of Lugo ever getting a full-time gig in Madison are slim, he'll be a fun player to watch this winter in St. Augustine. He's really blocked at the 1B/DH position by Mick, Raider, and Barrall. Nonetheless, the hulking 6 foot 7 inch firstbaseman has some potential as a platooning type 1B in the league for someone. He actually played at 3 levels this season, beginning the year in A-Ball before finishing up in AAA. Total, he hit 23 homeruns while driving in 70 RBI. He had OPS of .856, .858, and .905 respectively at each level this season. At worst, the 19 year old might see some PH duties in 2037 for Madison or continue to play it out in AAA waiting for something to open up.

Image Rafael Gutierrez (11/9/1/3/11 Talents)
Gutierrez was our big IFA signing last off-season and ranks in as our #3 overall prospect in our farm system. The young 17 year old continues to grow and mature as a potential high hits and average guy. In rookie ball this season, he hit .300/.321/.387. His glove is still suspect at the 3B position but again, at just 17 years of age he has some time to keep working on that and hopefully some time in Florida this winter will help.
