That's What Cheesehead: 36.37 - It's Getting Ugly

Post by 7teen » Thu Oct 11, 2018 10:18 am

June is drawing to a close and it can't end soon enough for fans of the Wolves. After spending much of the first two months clinging to some post-season aspirations, the bottom has all but fallen out of the team in June as the Wolves now find themselves closer to the basement in the division than they do the post-season. The club has gone 4-11 in its last 15 games and has a losing record for the month and is a season high 7 games under .500 after the team's most recent 3 game sweep at the hands of Montreal at home.

The recent stretch of losing continues to fall most on the shoulders of the offense as the club ranks 13th in the Frick League in runs scored. While Jon Mick (.286/.340/.586, 25 HR, 74 RBI) has carried the offense to this point, his back clearly has to be getting sore carrying the whole load of the offense. Mick has just as many homeruns (25) as nearly the rest of our team COMBINED (26). Mick is the only player with a WAR over 1 and only rookie Natanael Barral (.277/.407/.426, 2 HR, 11 RBI) is close at 0.8 and he's only played 29 games this season filling in for the injured Mons Raider.

Despite playing games at a stadium that favors hits, Madison currently has 7 guys that start or plattoon in their lineup hitting below .250 this season.

"We just can't hit" said Wolves manager Millard Davis. "It's one of the worst offensive units I've had during my time in Madison. Sure, we have some guys who can field, but damn, we can't hit. We can only hope Raider's return in a few weeks turns this thing around soon."

The Wolves have 12 games prior to the all-star break. How these 12 games play out may dictate whether the Wolves become major sellers heading into the second half. Assuming there is anything worth buying off this squad.
