Why can't we have nice things!? The Wolves, fresh in the middle of a two-year post season drought and a 37 year Landis drought, find themselves in an early fight for division supremacy. Yellow Springs, the typical owners of the division, are floundering around at .500 with an awaited series with Madison next sim. The Wolves are over .500 and are not only in the middle of a heated JL Wild Card race but find themselves right in the thick of things for the division. And we all know how tough the Heartland is. Amirite!?
But things just got a lot more difficult for Madison. The Wolves offense that ranks only 9th in runs scored just got even more offensively challenged when news broke this week that stud speedster Mons Raider (.302/.405/.380, 1 HR, 12 RBI) will be out for 8 weeks, likely through the all-star break. Raider injured his shoulder in a collision on the bases in the Wolves' 8-5 loss in California, which only made things worse for the Wolves against the Crusaders this season.
"It's a tough blow for sure" said Wolves manager Millard Davis. "Anytime you lose the best lead-off man in the game today it makes it really tough. Obviously we lose the stolen base threat. But we lose that run production at the top. It hurts guys behind him. Can guys get on-base in front of Porky now? It's going to take someone stepping up big time to make up for this injury."
For Raider, it's the first major injury of his career and the first time he's spent any time on the disabled list. The unfortunate part for the Wolves is he was playing 2B in the game, something Davis had tinkered with last season against lefty starters. Playing 1B has kept Raider pretty much healthy and rested to play nearly every day. But the change was designed to boost the offense but instead may cost the Wolves some games over the next 2 months.
As to who will replace Raider on the roster, it appears it will be Natanael Barral (7/9/7/7/6 Talents). Barral will make his BBA debut whenever he gets the chance next sim.

Not a bad replacement you had laying around in Barral. Tough to lose your superstar, but at least you got a guy to plug in and hold his own.

Though it's obvious his steals are now way down, I hate to see Raider hurt.
