That's What Cheesehead - 00.02 - League Awards Chatter

As mentioned in my previous TN, Bopper Kengos won the Sawyer Silk Award as the JL's top hitter. While Kengos was the only Wolves player to bring home any major award, plenty of other Wolves players saw their names sprinkled throughout the final vote tally.
Sawyer Silk Award
As mentioned, Silk came home with the Silver Slugger Award, but three other Wolves players received votes. Bolt Vanderhugen received 77 points and thus came in 3rd place in the final vote behind Kengos and McKinney. Vanderhugen did not receive any first place votes but did receive six 1st and six 2nd place votes to comfortably finish in 3rd in the vote. Charles "Crickett" Puckett finished 7th in the final vote garnering 16 points thanks to a 2nd place vote and three 4th and 5th place votes. Big Hurley Reyestook votes home from two members of the BOOTMBBA, a 4th and 5th place vote, to finish 11th in final vote. So it is not difficult to see why the Wolves offense was so successful this season when 4 players finished in the top 11 of the Silver Slugger voting.
Steve Nebraska Award
The Wolves were more known for their offense, obviously, but that didn't prevent the pitching from the Wovles from getting a little recognition. Chip Foodie, the Wolves 20 game winner from this season, received 67 votes, good enough for a 3rd place finish in the Nebraska Award voting. Obviously Foodie's 20 wins were a large p factor in the support he received, despite not having an impressive ERA or WHIP compared to his competition. Chet Steadman received a lone 4th place vote from an owner (not me), which gave him enough points to finish 15th in the final JL Nebraska vote.
Joe Gillstrom Award
For the first time in three seasons, the Gillstrom Award will not be in Madison. Kengos and Puckett had won the award each of the last two seasons. The highest finisher in this year's vote was John Rasmussen who finished 7th in the voting with 11 points.
Gunga Oogalagunga Award
Justin Marco recorded 39 saves this season, the 2nd most in the league, which was enough to give Marco 19 votes from the owners of the league and enough points to finish 3rd in the final JL Oogalagunga voting. I am a firm believer that the best reliever isn't the one that records the most saves. I'd prefer a reliever that logs 100+ innings, posts a low ERA and WHIP, and still strikes out plenty of batters. Marco was able to log 66.2 innings, post a 2.97ERA, and a 1.31 WHIP. The WHIP is higher than what you'd like to see from a dominant reliever, but still a pretty successful 1999 campgaign from Marco.
Eric Ramon Owner of the Year Voting
Despite taking over after the first month of the season, not making a single move outside of the organization and only making a small number of roster moves, I somewho finished 2nd in the Owner voting. Perhaps a good portion of the votes should go to Gates Elliott, who basically built this team, only to abandon it for me to swoop in and reap the benefits. The correct owner won the award as Joe won the title and still displayed plenty of activity. But considering I finished 2nd and Ramsey finished 3rd, I feel as though it clearly distinguishes the pecking order of who THE CHRIS is.
