That's What Cheesehead - 99.3 - April POTM

Here is a look back at the organization's top players from the month of April...

Hitter of the Month
Image
Bolt Vanderhugen
First a new contract extension, and now, an organizational player of the month award. Vanderhugen led the Wolves in the month of April in batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. His .336/.378/.600 stat line was the best amongst our regulars. He tied Bopper Kengos in homeruns for the month with 8 and trailed Kengos by 2 RBI with 20 total for the month. Bolt, Bopper, and Hurley Reyes were the only three considered for this award as all 3 posted OPSs of over .900 for the first month of the season.

Pitcher of the Month

Chip Foodie
I had a couple of different ways to go here. I could have gone with the reliever, turned starter, that posted the lowest ERA among the starters to end the month. I could go with the guy that led the club in ERA for the month among the starters, but had a 2-2 record. Instead, I went with the guy that had the 3rd lowest ERA among the starters, had a perfect 3-0 record, and led the club in WHIP for the month. Foodie went 3-0 in April with a 3.16 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 34 strikeouts.

AAA Player of the Month

Ovidio Elizalde
At 26 years old, Elizalde's time may be running out if he ever wants to make a name for himself in the big leagues. But he made a name for himself in the month of April in AAA. Ovidio hit .309/.352/.728 in April with 7 homeruns and 24 RBI. Those stats won Elizalde the RHML batter of the month honors.

AA Player of the Month

Scott Copp
I can't ignore a player that had a .412 OBP for the month. Copp led the team with 24 base hits and then added 10 walks to that to lead the Wolves AA team in Rockford in OBP. His .333 average and .828 OPS was also best for Rockford.

A Player of the Month

Jonathon Stewart
I hate giving monthly awards to relievers, unless they have awesome months. Which makes this even more painful because Stewart didn't have an awesome month, but he was the best of what I had sitting in Single-A this month. Steward went 1-0 with 4 saves in 6 games, posting a 2.70 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in only 6 innings pitched.

With the Hartley career ending injury, that Foodie deal looks awful for the Crusaders now. Just goes to show that every trade, no matter how "fair", has an element of risk in it. And that's what makes trading fun,

I'd love to take credit for the TN title, but if I recall correctly, I think I heard it on the Dan Patrick radio show after the Packers won the Super Bowl. When trying to come up with a clever TN title, this came to mind. Being in Madison, Wisconsin, I felt it worked well.
