Jason Brooks entered the 2011 season as somewhat as an afterthought. With a top of the rotation that included Tom Madonald, Roy Nevel and Antonio Rodriguez, Brooks wasn't making any headlines or being granted many interview requests - after all he was moved to the bullpen for the 2010 playoffs and some pundits believed he'd be better off staying there.
During the 2011 season, the 25-year old Brooks put together the best season of his short career going 18-6 with a 3.46 ERA and a 203/51 k/bb ratio in 203 innings. During the 2011 playoffs Brooks continued to come up big posting a 1.98 ERA in 2 starts while compiling a 1-1 record. He also started the 2011 All-Star game and is currently the front runner for the POY award.
Brooks was selected 17th overall by the Montreal Blazers back in 2004 and was acquired by Chicago a short 17 months later in a deal that sent Steve Faulkner to the Blazers.
That being said, with Nevel coming back in early 2012, where will Brooks end up in the rotation? Manager Joey Cahill was coy when asked, stating simply "he'll definitely be getting the ball every 5th day."
