On June 11th, the Black Sox were excited to add 17 year old SP Frank Jackson to their minor league system with the 10th overall selection in the first round.
On June 28th, the Black Sox opened their checkbook and paid Jackson $2.5 million to join their organization.
On July 6th, Jackson made his professional debut - throwing 2 2/3 innings while giving up 6 hits and striking out 2 and walking 1.
On July 11th, on his 94th pitch of the night Jackson tore his flexor tendon and, as a result, will be out of commission for a full 12 months.
Jackson is obviously young and has not lost any potential at this stage of his rehab, but a severe injury like this is never good for a young pitcher. His work ethic will hopefully come into play here and will allow his to acheive the potential the Sox initially saw just a short month ago.
Jackson addressed the media yesterday and vows to come back stronger than ever. "I will not let this deter me," said Jackson, "I have overcome many obstacles in my life and I will work as hard as anyone to ensure I come back next summer and meet the expectations this both this organziation and myself have for me. I will not be denied."
