Wattson Named Manager

After an exhaustive search for a new manager, Chicago has hired Rocky Wattson to lead the team. Wattson, recently retired, was speculated to become a hitting coach in Huntsville, but after his interview, the organization left impressed enough to name him manager.

Earlier this offseason, Wattson received the honor of having his number retired. Now, he gets to manage the team he spent the majority of his career with.

Burhan comes to Chicago

Ragheb Burhan has signed with Chicago for 5 years, $35 million dollars. Burhan was Chicago’s top target heading into the offseason due to his ability to play all three outfield positions. Plans are for Burhan to become Chicago’s leadoff hitter in 2057 and starting in Right Field.

With the Burhan signing, the Chicago outfield is taking shape. If the season started today, Julio Miller would start in Left Field, Aurelio Dieguez in Center Field and Burhan in Right Field.

From the outside looking in, Frederick Brisset, Oscar Lewis, Adam Rex, and Juan Lizarazo will be competing for platoon/backup roles.

Welcome Marcus Olivares

Chicago has traded for veteran pitcher Marcus Olivares in a deal with the Vancouver Mounties. Olivares, 27, has spent parts of 7 seasons in the majors between Las Vegas & Vancouver. In his career, he has 162 appearances, 25-24 record and a 4.09 ERA. In May of 2056, Olivares tore his UCL, which means he will not be back until August 2057 at the earliest. This trade has not been about 2057 as Olivares is expected to sign an extension and compete for a role in 2058.
Alfredo Aragón wrote:With Olivares, it has followed our philosophy of trying to compete now, but keeping an eye on the future. We are always trying to bring in pitchers with multiple years of contract as it is more expensive to sign free agent pitchers that fit our scheme than it is to bring in guys via trade or waivers and hope one of them stands out. With our pitching, we have gone with more quantity over quality thus far. That will change as we become a high performing team, but with where we are today, we need to keep throwing darts against the board and hope one of them is a bullseye.
