2055.10: Staff Breakdown

Post by KJChmura » Tue Aug 08, 2023 7:43 pm

We treat our organization staff like we treat our players. Our minor league coaches were hired specifically for their role, with some bringing experience and others considered “up and coming” coaches. Our staff is led by our major league manager Alberto Sanchez. Alberto comes from winning and these two years have not been easy on him. Despite the record, we are confident he is the right man to turn this team around. We have 3 years left on his contract and he will be with our organization for a minimum of 3 years.

2nd in command to Sanchez is Andy Curry, our bench coach. Andy is widely considered the next man up for Chicago’s manager job. Andy brings consistency to the organization and we have already signed him to a long term extension, meaning he will be with us for at least 6 more years.

Last season we made a rough hire with hiring Antonio Velasco as our pitching coach. We marketed it as a homecoming, with Antonio coming back after 4 seasons away. The homecoming lasted 30 games. It was not pretty, but it led us to hiring Ipe Slagboom. Ipe has been outstanding for us and we truly believe he can be our long term answer at pitching coach.

Next, we have Joseph DeBohun as our 1st base coach. Joseph was our Triple-A manager last year, but we had the plan of promoting him to the major league staff eventually. Joseph is a strong coach and we believe our young team will benefit from his guidance.

Currently, our hitting coach & 3rd base coach roles are open. This is not ideal as we are an organization that believes in consistency, but at the same time, you need to perform. We are actively interviewing for the roles, with the hopes of filling in the next few weeks.

Earlier, we mentioned the minors as being an outlet for growing coaches. We are extremely excited for our new Triple-A manager Craig Bass. Craig is a 35 year old future coaching star. We expect him to manage our Triple-A team for a few years before we bring him up to the major league staff.

In Double-A, we have Jacob Harris, who was a rookie manager last year. Harris had a strong season in Double-A and we have recently signed him to an extension, so he will be with us for at least three more seasons. There is a world where Harris joins the major league staff, but ideally he settles in with leading the Double-A team for years to come.

Outside of coaching, we have Assistant General Manager Alfredo Aragon. Alfredo, like many on this staff, is in their early 40’s and young in his coaching career. In 2055, we mainly tasked Alfredo with scouting opponents minor league systems. We are happy with his progress so far, but unlike his co-workers, we have not considered an extension for him.

So, after reading all this, what does it all mean? Keep an eye out, but there is a scenario out there where Alberto Sanchez leaves the dugout and becomes our Assistant GM, with Andy Curry or Craig Bass becoming manager within the next few years. We are at least one year away from this scenario, but we have discussed this with Alberto, Andy & Craig.

I've always loved Alberto Sanchez. Heart of a tiger.

I feel like Chicago is going to be really, really good in a couple of years. They are just using this down time to build the infrastructure from the ground up.
