Trimming Organizational Roster, Dunn cuts Dunn and Dunn
Chicago, June 2, 2051 - With the start of the seasons for Short-A and Rookie League ball, Black Sox GM Mike Dunn announced the release of seven ballplayers at all levels of the minors. And in a move welcomed by all fans, Dunn finally cut ties with his two namesakes, AAA catcher Michael Dunn and A-level outfielder Mike Dunn.
Dunn is done with Dunn and Dunn
Dunn's history with Dunn and Dunn is long and infamous. In 2048, when he was briefly GM of the Edmonton Jackrabbits, Dunn acquired both, and was roundly slammed by fans up north for what one wag described as "Vanity Insanity." Dunn then moved over to helm the Black Sox at the start of the '49 season, and in January of 2050 he worked a deal with Edmonton to bring his namesakes along to his new organization (that deal also brought Manoell Whanon to the big league club). This prompted Black Sox fans to also ridicule the GM as more focused on seeing his name in lights than building a winner. Now, though, Dunn's fetish-like fixation on players with his own name appears to have come to an end. Both Michael Dunn and Mike Dunn have been shown the door, according to a statement released by the team's PR office. The notice came without comment, consistent with the team's policy of not speaking as they try to contend in the Heartland Division. One source told us, "Dunn finally realized it is time to get serious. The stupid stuff is, uh, done."
Also released were two 24-year old first basemen stuck in Short A, Dustin Faith and Ernest Little. "We lost faith in Faith. We saw little in Little," said our source.
The source refused to comment on the release of 22-year old catcher Chris Cox. "Not touching that one."
