Team Owner Blames Poor Week on Our Own Blog Post
Chicago, May 19, 2051 - After the team posted its first losing week in the '51 season, Black Sox owner Vinnie Vitale today lashed out at your favorite publication, the Black Sox Baseball Blog, for publishing a story last week about the team's refusal to comment on its strong start this season.
Now Vitale is fuming, and threatening action. "I warned you m-fers not to publish," he said in a tense meeting with editors. "Now you've ruined it all. The Baseball Gods are always watching, waiting for one iota of gloating to lash back at us, and remind us who is truly in charge. And that is precisely what we saw this week." According to sources, the owner is considering leaving a dead horse in the bed of the blog's publisher or ensuring that he swims with the fishes.
Vitale raised eyebrows in the off-season by signing aging slugger Fernando Castillo to a bloated contract under the mistaken assumption that Castillo, like Vitale, was Italian. The Gods of Baseball promptly rewarded that snafu by snapping Castillo's Achilles tendon in the second game of spring training. "That'll show him!" the Gods most likely said at the time.
The Baseball Gods (shown at right) did not respond to our repeated requests for comment.
The Black Sox face the Yellow Springs Nine tonight in the fourth game of the series. The losses in the first three games mark the first time the Sox (28-15) did not either win or split a series this season.
