Black Sox Giveaway Honors Star Starter: The BernieHead

Windy City, April 7, 2050: The home opener of the Black Sox's 2050 season arrives Saturday night, April 9, with the start of the three games series against perennial bridesmaids Yellow Springs. And then after that, on Tuesday April 12, comes the team's first big giveaway -- a Bernie Stuart bobblehead, honoring the young starter who has emerged as one of the best hurlers of the Brewster.

Stuart, just 25, is off to a rip-roarin' beginning to the new season: in two starts he is 2-0 with 14 innings pitched and a very round era of 0.00.

That's right -- in his two starts so far, both on the road, Bernie has not yielded a single run. And we've totally jinxed him by pointing that out.

The bobblehead, dubbed "The BernieHead," will be given to the first 30,000 fans who show up Tuesday, when the Black Sox take on the Nashville Bluebirds in the first of three.

Bernie himself may not have room on his mantle for the bobblehead. Stuart won the 2046 Joe Gillstrom Newcomer of the Year award, and the Steve Nebraska Golden Arm award in both '47 and '48. That's in addition to three All-Star selections in each of those years.

2049 brought a down year for Stuart, though it was fine for most pitchers. Fans are hoping he returns to his 2048 form, when he lead the league in ERA and Ks.

Whether he does nor not, the fans who turn out Tuesday will have a great bobblehead to call their own!

I blame the manager(in game). Stuart threw 27 meaningless pitches out of the bullpen during the last spring training game. Then threw 103 on opening day. Durable or not, he is too valuable to be throwing 130 pitches in 4 days in a non playoff atmosphere.

Goodness, I had no idea, and I blame me. I should have noticed he was not fully rested for the season opener. I had moved him and all starters to the bullpen for the final sim just to give them rest, thinking they'd throw very little. But I should have paid attention to their last appearances, and did not.

In other words: I have only myself to blame.

On the bright side: it's only five weeks (not, say, three months), I have Wilson Milligan on rehab so he'll be back in the rotation soon, and most importantly, all of this is fodder for more team news!

nah, don't blame yourself. It's stupid AI. Why on earth would they pitch a guy who is clearly going to be your opening day starter in that spot. A MLB manager would be fired over that.

Thanks Alan. I meant only that I should have noticed he'd been used at the end of ST and not slot him to do the opener. So the AI made the first bonehead move, but I compounded it by not noticing.
