GM Returns in Front Office Fracas
Chicago, April 7, 2049 -- It's a veritable blast from the past as the Black Sox owner Vinnie Vitale -- often described as tolerant and charitable -- parted ways with General Manager Jim Cox just as the regular season was about to begin, then tapped former Sox GM Mike Dunn to take Cox's place in the front office.

Dunn spent two years--1995 and 1996--at the helm of the Sox, surprisingly winning Landis titles in both years (the first title prompted the infamous downtown rioting that cost millions of dollars in damage to local businesses). "That team was stacked," said one insider, "Dunn didn't have to do much." He suddenly disappeared after the '96 season, only to resurface in 2044 in the Middle East as the GM of the then-Libya Generals (now the Tripoli Piranhas). Most recently he spent two seasons as the Jackrabbits GM in Edmonton.

Hall of Famer Kiplinger is pleased
Here at at the Southside Ramblings website, we are sorry to see Cox depart. He and predecessor Vic Caleca guided the team to seven straight playoff appearances. Dunn has a tall order to fill in continuing that streak, and his recent record in Edmonton does not give us hope.

However one former Black Sox great was pleased with this nod to the Black Sox's past. "Those days were a blast," said 78-year old Hall of Famer Jeff Kiplinger, a mainstay in the rotation for both the '95 and '96 championship teams, "It would be great to recapture that magic."

Kiplinger still has decent pitch control. His bladder control may be another thing.
