It was with great trepidation that John McClain walked out to the mound on that fateful day, August 19, 2046 at home in front of a sold-out crowd of 50,000 cheering fans. He had been sent down a month and a half earlier to the Carolina Flight and had not performed particularly well there: only a 4.50 ERA and -0.2 WAR in nine starts. He thought he would never be called back up to the majors. But here he was, called up but a day earlier and ready for his first start in the majors in almost two months. He could feel the butterflies eating away at his insides.
Then he threw his first pitch, a slider that moved... a lot. Then he threw his sinker and he was in the groove. He struck out the first batter he faced. He earned the win on that day, in true McClain fashion, pitching 6.1 shutout innings with only three singles allowed, one walk and four Ks. When he was pulled in the seventh, he tipped his hat and got a standing ovation.
"This is what I have been missing", he thought, as he air-walked the rest of the way to the dugout.

His second appearance didn’t impress me much, but his third one will be great. He will come back with a vengeance.
