Farm Fresh, 2043: Short Season A Wrap-up
It’s hard to think of a team that finished 22 games over .500 as a hard-luck story, but that’s how we view Chicago’s Short Season A team, the San Pedro de Macoris Green Sox.
The culprit? San Pedro finished 11 games off their expected winning percentage (-11 to their Pythagorean Record). If the Sox had played to their expected record, they would have finished at 60-16, first in the entire league.
Instead, they were 49-27 and outta luck.
San Pedro won without much in the way of prospect talent on their roster: Orinosuke Chikafuji, a pitching prospect out of Chicago’s International Complex, came the closest with scouts rating him 20/45 on his overall potential.
Otherwise, San Pedro was basically a bunch of lightly regarded young players who went out and put together a decent (if hard-luck) campaign.
Few – if any – of these guys will make it to the BBA, but for one season, at least, they put on a show that should’ve had a better payoff for them.
